Community
The AVA runs a number of initiatives that make a valuable
contribution to the community.
The Australian Companion Animal
Council provides a forum for the pet care industry to
promote the benefits of socially responsible pet ownership. The AVA is a
member of the Council and provides administrative support.
The AVA Centre for Companion Animals in the
Community is an advisory committee of veterinarians and
other companion animal experts that provides expertise on companion
animal ownership and management.
The discipline of urban animal
management encompasses all the functions that help
manage animals in urban areas. The AVA helped develop the discipline,
which is now led by the Australian Institute of Animal
Management.
AVA PetPEP is
a school education program for primary aged children from Years 3
to 6. It teaches responsible pet ownership and how to be safe around
companion animals.
The AVA microchip
accreditation program ensures that people who microchip pets
have the appropriate technical knowledge. This section lists accredited
providers, details the AVA policy on microchipping, and explains why
it's important for animal management.
In this section, we also provide information about the profession for
people who are considering whether to become a veterinarian.
